New Mexico

War Eagles Museum, Doña Ana County, NM

In January 2020 I visited the War Eagles Museum in Doña Ana County, New Mexico with Leadership New Mexico.  This was my second visit there and it is amazing.  They have so many different aircraft,  mannequins and even a huge variety of antique vehicles.

The museum will take at least an hour to go through, even more, if you are a real history buff.  I don’t know all the details, but I would love to know how they obtained all their displays, but I am jealous.  I am on the board for the Walker Aviation Museum Foundation and we would love a tenth of what they have there.

What I really like about the museum is they have mannequins with uniforms from the branch and era of the planes on display.  This museum literally fills an entire airplane hangar – with a few planes outside.   The planes are not all military-related, there are many civilian models as well. They also have several engines exposed so you can learn a little more about how they work.  There are several planes with open cockpits as well and a helicopter you can sit in to take photos.

The museum is actually pretty far off the road, but work the extra drive.  Learn more about the museum.
