River of Lights, Albuquerque, NM BioPark

My daughter and I had pre-purchased tickets for the River of Lights in the Albuquerque BioPark.  We were only going to be there for the one night to see it.  Our flight in from Denver was 2.5 hours late so we had to rush to the park to see the display.  I was looking forward to taking my time and photographing and videotaping the lights, but now we were rushed because we only had about one hour to see the entire display.  To be honest, Shelby was very happy that I had a time limit because I tend to really take a long time when trying to get great shots.

The weather turned out perfect for us.  It was chilly, but not quite freezing, so it was bearable.  The light display is spread out all over the BioPark.  There are so many unique and beautiful displays – I know in our limited time we were not able to see them all.  But what we did see was beautiful.  The people that put the displays together obviously spent a lot of time planning and setting up.  The photos and video do not do the displays justice.

This is such a great family event.  It was my first time to attend, but it appears they set up and run for an entire month.  Being that we went on a weekday and very late (close to 9 p.m.), there were still quite a few people there.  We intentionally went after Christmas (December 26) to avoid the crowds.  I have been told it is typically very packed and crazy with people.  I was even informed it would probably be easiest to Uber in so you would not have to fight the parking crowds. Again, it was not bad for us.  I did get very irritated when several people would cross the barriers to go in closer to the lights. They did have a lot of volunteer security wandering around trying to prevent this.

If you are in the Albuquerque area and looking for holiday activities, I highly recommend you take the time to visit.  They do have a website with more information.
